Random Links #336 on Teoh Beng Hock Part 1

Posted on 18 July, 2009 by Sivin Kit

What happened to Teoh Beng Hock?

It’s sad that Beng Hock died, it’s equally sad that someone’s death is needed to awaken many from our slumber!

Police don’t rule out foul play in Teoh’s death

Maybe I read wrongly, an earlier report said they did.  Anyway, it’s still an ongoing investigation.

DEATH OF TEOH BENG HOCK: Q&A with Federal MACC director of investigations Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdul

The MACC side of the story. What does “thorough” mean?

Why was he questioned until the wee hours of the morning?

It is normal for MACC to record statements for about eight to nine hours. This is because our questions are very thorough.

Press Release: Establish Royal Commission of Enquiry to investigate death of Teoh Beng Hock

The Malaysian Bar council speaks.

This is not the first time that the MACC has reportedly held witnesses and interrogated them overnight.  It is indefensible that a witness in a routine investigation should have been deprived of sleep and interrogated for more than eight hours, reportedly from about 5 p.m. until 3.45 the next morning.  Even detained persons have the right not to be interrogated during the night.  Rule 20 of the Lockup Rules 1953 provides that detainees “shall be locked up for the night by 6.30 p.m. and shall rise and be dressed by 6.30 a.m.”  They are to be allowed adequate rest.  If there was insufficient time to finish questioning Teoh during reasonable hours of the day, he should have been released and asked to return on another day.  He was not a flight risk, and indeed was to have had a civil registry marriage on the following day.

Najib will lose credibility and wipe out all the popularity ratings he clawed back from 45% to 65% just before end of his First Hundred Days if there is no Royal Commission of Inquiry into Teoh Beng Hock’s extraordinary plunge to death from 14th floor MACC hqrs

Lim Kit Siang does a long blog post title!

Who will believe Teoh, 30 would commit suicide by leaping from the 14th floor of MACC headquarters when he is to register his marriage to teacher Soh Cher Wei, 28 the next day and that Soh is two-month pregnant?

Now, taxi-driver Teoh Leong Hui and his wife Cheong Sui Hua, 56, have lost a beloved son, Soh a husband and the unborn child a father! Who is responsible for such a despicable and dastardly deed?

Teoh Beng Hock

My friend articulates what is probably quietly is in everyone’s mind.

How he is found sprawled on the roof of another shorter part of the MACC building in Shah Alam will remain a mystery. Of course, Nazri has already made silly remakrs like ‘let police investigate’, & ‘dont make assumption’; BUT at the same time can subtly say ‘of Why Teoh jump, I dont know’. Come on lah Minister – how can you even assume he jumped? And what more after telling Malaysian not to pre-judge, you go make that kind of statement.

At the end of the day, MACC and BN can say what they want to either cover up the matter or try to explain it away; but the bottom line is – One Man has died. And whether MACC likes it or not, Teohs’ unfortunate demise will always be linked with MACC.

I think the government should carry a test or experiments of human model as a step during the process investigation. Since the government want to find out the truth an promise will highly investigated the case but why they want to skip the step of human model testing?? I believe this test could help in investigating process . This is because the autopsy report may be not so completed as we say that police in malaysia could not believe anymore. So there’s my comment here. If they skip any step of investigation , this would also cause us never know who is the person who causing the death of Teoh Beng Hock.
