In my recent piece A Modest Faith? I mentioned that,
“it’s not uncommon to meet sincere zealous Christians who write off even honest inquiry, some would even go as far to say just believe and stop asking all these hard questions. So, I can understand the reaction to unthinking anti-intellectual forms of Christianity. While not everyone will be very sophisticated in their Christian faith, but we are all called to an honest faith with a strong dose of humble inquisitive spirit. To rephrase Ruse’’s words, I would want to be modest in my belief as I seek to continue in the way of Christ."
I supposed seminars like the one below seeks to create a safe space for Christians as well as people of other faiths (or those who are secularist) to engage in some healthy conversations and thinking.
I might show up just to say hi to Ron Choong whom I had some really interesting email exchanges on Palestine. But that’s for another day. Now it’s Science and Christianity!

SCIENCE & CHRISTIANITY
The doctrine of providence shows science as a gift from the God who reveals and desires that we know of Him through both nature and witness (Scriptures). In this seminar, we consider how we may reconcile our ancient faith with modern science.
WHAT DO CHRISTIANS REALLY BELIEVE?
Trust in God assumes a desire to learn more about God. A faith not nurtured by knowledge will remain immature and superficial, vulnerable to doubt and of little use in evangelism. In this seminar, we shall examine the 4 doctrines central to Christian belief – creation, alienation, reconciliation and decision (CARD).
UNDERSTANDING GENESIS 1-11: WHO WROTE WHAT, WHERE, WHEN AND WHY?
The first book in our Bible was not the first book written. Understanding its history and purpose will help us make sense of its curious stories. In this seminar, we shall ask who wrote Genesis 1-11, where and when they did it, and what their purpose was.
WHO?

T3 refers to ‘Thinking Things Through’. Since we are what we believe, and we believe what we think, it makes sense to think carefully what we think about so that our thoughts may well be thought out.
ACT’s signature T3 seminars provide a theological safe space to deal with sincere questions, as we doubt our way into beliefs. Register ahead of time, read the provided handouts and ask pertinent questions during the Q & A.

This is a really good read. Informative video clip too! I think I will go for round two to reward myself for writing my papers ROFL.
The song How Many Kings still ringing in my ears.
I missed every big Christmas production this year. Almost went for one yesterday, but somehow the physical body needed rest, thus landed up being at home reading stories to Ewan and Elysia.
I guess, I will only REALLY start my rest tomorrow. Then again, it’s a rest which includes writing a theology academic paper
Heading to the margins was an important part of the finale. How life has changed for me these past years. Who would have imagined this would be my path?
Listening to carols sung in a foreign tongue brought me into another world. Then when I heard “He leadeth me”, something in me was moved. I couldn’t understand it but I felt the Spirit move.
The last Sunday for the year ended on a significant sobering note.
Suddenly, the few things I need to wrap up for the year surged into my mind. I’ll need to settle them by 31 December.
First, settle some external “stuff” this morning, and tonight. One more personal, another more public. Both need a steady heart and a solid mind.
Looking forward for the afternoon. Perhaps a haircut today?
Not much left . maybe a trim? Freshen up for the new year.
Short random thought post for today. In winding down mode.
One of the joys this Christmas as in every Christmas for BLC is the joy and excitement overflowing from the children. To add on, it’s encouraging for adults to discover or rediscover child-like faith and trust.
The following piece written by one of our latest newly baptized members captures this journey. Child-like faith isn’t devoid of questions or probing, it includes all those aspects too. The kind of faith we’re talking about is adventurous, risk-taking, communal, trusting, and maturing .
A Leap of Faith, In The Same Direction.
After two years of arduous questioning and probing, demanding then begging.
He finally broke this wanton child.
All the countless, endless questions of "but then.." "sure or not" "i don’t believe this…" "so what if" "but this doesn’t make sense…" I’d just like to say.
Thank You.
For being patient with all this resistance. Through the battling of so many ideas, ideals, thoughts and what ifs. Thank you for all the nights of conversations. All the bantering, the soul searching, the guidance, the answers, and the questions.
Thank you for having an open heart, a beautiful mind, a free soul, to allow this soul the space to question her purpose in this world.
Thank you for allowing me to fall, and still being there. For always believing in the better version that He created.
For the shared laughter. And private moments.
For every step we’ve taken together and separately.
For growing up together.
For guiding me to now listening to His purpose for me.
It’s the same. But so different.
Through our conversations, our moments shared, He has renovated my heart, blown it wide open, and is changing so much of it. Through shared understanding, debates and different points of view, He has made and forced me to see things I never have before. Expecting more of me, challenging, re-defining. And at the same time always, always guiding.
Thank You for being such a big part of this journey. For your sharing, your friendship, your love, and support. For being part of His work in my life.
Perhaps it is in our shared moments together that I’m reminded of this beautiful Heaven we are a part of.
I got a special gift through little 2 year old Ewan today when he walked up on stage with the older kids and joined their presentation.
He’s been seeing them sing and dance at MPH 1utama, Midvalley and also Bangsar Shopping Centre. I guess the Christmas joy was simply contagious.
It came to me as a surprise when I saw him going up. A pleasant surprise indeed!
Thanks Ben Ong for capturing this on video. I got news someone might start a fan page for Ewan Kit.
Apart from a beautiful melody and an engaging chorus, I guess many in the congregation could relate to the lyrics. We reworked it a little so people could sing the song with a little surprising bridge. (Yes, you’ll see me playing acoustic guitar in full pastoral attire
)
How Many Kings by Downhere
Follow the star to a place unexpected
Would you believe after all we’ve projected
A child in a mangerLowly and small, the weakest of all
Unlikeliness hero, wrapped in his mothers shawl
Just a child
Is this who we’ve waited for?Cause how many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?Bringing our gifts for the newborn savior
All that we have whether costly or meek
Because we believe
Gold for his honor and frankincense for his pleasure
And myrrh for the cross he’ll suffer
Do you believe, is this who we’ve waited for?
It’s who we’ve waited forHow many kings, stepped down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
How many Gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that has torn all apart?
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for meAll for me
All for you
All for me
All for you
