Amy S - Thanks for the "links" to the two books ... both I think very relevant to our Malaysian context.

On "spiritual friendship" - because so often our relations tend to me utilitarian on how we to put it crudely use each other, or becomes a place where we expect support without correction and growth.

On "graced based parenting" - because so often we have an misconstrued idea of discipline based on cultural baggage (which we may use to justify our ways) or a wrong stereotype which gives the impression that that discipline is to extinguish freedom, and then grace then sounds like a "limitless" free for all direction-less being "nice".

I had to go off and experiment with some grace based disciplinary coaching a minute ago on the siblings :-)

Thanks ...

Hi sivin,

I'm glad to see you tackling two issues that have been very close to my heart over the past year. One is spiritual friendship. I read "the safest place on earth" by Larry Crabb and was very encouraged in what it means to be a friend and how to have deeper more spiritual relationships with people. the other is Grace. I came across the book "Grace Based Parenting" in a book store in malaysia and it really touched me, both to help me understand God's grace and learn more about how to pass that on to my kids in the way I parent them. Eric and I had the opportunity to attend a seminar by the author - Tim Kimmell, just last weekend. It was called, "Raising Kids for true greatness." We were really inspired and encouraged. Just thought I'd pass those resources on, as if you needed any new ideas or books to read!
