I’m concerned with Haji Sulaiman’s somewhat starry eyed view about the actual situation in Malaysia. Even if we remove the Islamic state vs secular state discourse from the segment, I still cannot understand how he can come to the conclusion the minorities in Malaysia are not already the underdog. Instead he opts for a conspiracy theory of what he calls “a worldwide attack or revulsion against Islam”.

The harmony Haji Sulaiman would like many of us to believe is, for better or for worse, merely imposed from the top and the illusion perpetuated by a subservient mass media with many “difficult” issues being swept under the carpet and allowed to fester, resulting in occasional flare ups like the Kg Medan troubles and the recent “Negarakuku” controversy.

His intellectual honesty leaves a lot to be desired.
