About the video
This video documents the story of Pastor James Movel Wuye and Imam Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa – how they journeyed from enmity to friendship. The two Nigerian clergymen had been sworn enemies for years and even attempted to have the other killed. A chance meeting in 1995 marked the beginning of the process of reconciliation. By truthfully acknowledging their theological differences and exposing detrimental misperceptions, the pastor and the imam have set forth a model for reconciliation between Christians and Muslims across Nigeria and throughout the world. They believe peace will be achieved through education and dialogue. Wuye and Ashafa appeal to scripture as the basis for reconciliation. Hence, peace and justice is restored through religion, even as it was first violated through religion.

Post-screening discussion
After the screening, there will be a time for participants to share their response and exchange views. Through this, we could explore how to appropriate some of the lessons from Pastor Wuye and Imam Ashafa’s story for our context and perhaps discover a way through the confusion into clarity and conviction.

This is a really good read. Informative video clip too! I think I will go for round two to reward myself for writing my papers ROFL.

Covenant for Congregational Partnership / Bundes-Urkunde der Gemeindepartnerschaft – Bangsar Lutheran Church & Evangelisch-Lutherischen Kirchengemeinde Lauf an der Pegnitz
So much has happened in the last one week that I haven’t even stopped sufficiently to reflect on. I’m slowing down the speed of my life starting today. Okay, perhaps fater lunch since we have a meeting with another guest from USA. But for now, I’d like to just highlight a special moment between 2 friends and also 2 congregations.
Covenant for Congregational Partnership
“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” Psalm 113:3
United in the faith of the Triune God, as part of the worldwide church of Jesus Christ,
and thankful for the connection we have had since 2005,
we commit to establish a
congregation partnership
between:
|
Bangsar Lutheran Church (LCMS, Malaysia) |
Evangelical Lutheran Church Lauf a.d. Pegnitz (ELCB, Germany) |
We both declare …
1. We are grateful for the bond as brothers and sisters between the two congregations and consider it to be a blessing and opportunity for mutual enrichment in the body of Christ.
2. We have in common the focus
a. To lead lively congregations which are led by the Holy Spirit ,
b. To encourage believers in faithful discipleship in Jesus Christ.
c. To invite people to become followers of Jesus Christ ,
d. To become witnesses for Christ in public life and social engagement in creative and constructive ways.
3. We can share with and learn from each other ideas and lessons on all the above. We want to let each other know about the most important news on the life and ministry of our congregations and pray for each other regularly.
4. We were blessed through the contacts and visits we have had thus far, and would be pleased and hopeful for deeper friendship and partnership.

Random Thoughts after Star Trek
I really liked the “Rebooted” Star Trek Movie. No complaints.
Made me wonder how would the Church in Malaysia look like if we “rebooted” ourselves with the same energy and focus that went into this movie.
Of course, made me wonder how would the government, various institutions and society in Malaysia would look like if the whole system went for a much needed “reboot”. Literally, we need more than a kick?
One meeting was rescheduled this morning. That felt good. Another meeting opened up this afternoon before another appointment which both are cool. One is basic, another is beyond.
I noticed after watching Fringe that J.J Abrams seems to like certain fonts. I blame this sensitivity and all things in the media to my father. When I was young, he was always talking about them in the car when we pass a billboard. Strange how our origin stories affect us so much
I giggled when a church member warned me from using Star Trek in my upcoming sermons
Well, after the “rebooted” Battlestar Galactica series. Where else will I get my entertainment inspirations? Caprica?
I noticed prequels are the trend the past few years. Interesting. Seems like we have also grown the hunger to know how one get’s to where they are today as well as where one is heading to. Fascinating.
So, it’s not just who have we become but what led us to become who we are as well as the people who influenced us along the way.
Whoosh!!! Bam! I loved the new way they get into warp speed.
I loved the new way they show how people are “transported” too . ah the little details which make a lot of difference.
This post was meant for yesterday. Thursday is for Random thoughts. Friday is for family and friends. More later.
240s: Dan Wilt on Worship Meets Justice
Dan . I absolutely agree with you all over the oceans here in Malaysia! (I’m glad one of my church members is being mentored in your community!)
Let’s not separate what God has joined together .
Once
It’s been quite a while since I mentioned the movies I’ve enjoyed lately on this blog. This is one delightful accident I stumbled upon in Speedy. It’s worth every RM19.90 . The award winning song Falling Slowly has stuck on me even until now after hearing it for the first time last night with May Chin.
There were many scenes in the movie which brought some memories back of my childhood times in the UK and especially Leicester. The houses, the streets, the clothing, the people and the life as well.
Once you get through the advertisement, enjoy a live performance of the song at press conference.
Falling Slowly
I discovered this late . but it’s indeed a great song. The movie Once was pretty good too . very raw and real. The Oscar speech especially by Glen Hansard and especially Marketa Irglova is worth a listen too!
Below is the version in the movie .
The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep
It’s quite a while since I posted up any movies
Entertainment is not high on the agenda on this blog these days. But then, when it becomes a time when we can spend together as a family, then it’s okay.
Since the arrival of Ewan, we have been unable to pop in a movie theater. That would be too much for us parents and the 3 kids nowadays. But we can still manage to watch a movie on the notebook!
I’m glad Gareth survived the whole show compared to Happy Feet (which we left after some intense scenes of fierce seals!) But I noticed as a five year old turning six in October, he was able to grasp the key themes of the movie of friendship, bonding, love and loyalty. As usual, he’s easily troubled by the more intense scenes (especially when it involves even mild violence). He got quite emotional at the end of the movie (actually I think I was getting a little choked up as well – but then I’m a softy when it comes to these kind of moments even if I know it’s fiction!).
Elysia is like her mom, asking questions along every scene transition
I can imagine if we were in the theater, she would either be as much of the entertainment for the audience or a itching disturbance through out the movie. Looks like we’ll keep the movie nights at home for a while. Both of them loved the "water horse" when it was small and cute. But were able to warm up to it even when it was gigantic and huge. I think the director must have done something right to help Gareth and the 3 year old Elysia to be able to make that transition effortless.
Ah … as for 5 month old Ewan, he followed the movie for the first part while on mummy May Chin’s lap, and then on my lap, then taking some snacks in between … with mummy of course
Since Elysia did all the questions, May Chin had no chance to ask hers because she was busy answering the daughter … phew!
There were nice little moments where we parents had our hugs with the kids, calming them down when things got a little scary, and giggling together at funny parts, … all in all family entertainment at it’s best.
Oh .. yes, entertainment is still not high on the agenda for this blog. But if it connects to some relationship building, then it can get a mention
as a supplement but not the main thing.
