I think I plan to go for a second viewing of the movie and soak in the music.

I’m speechless .  :-)

MOVIE SCREENING: THE IMAM & THE PASTOR

You are invited to a screening and discussion of the movie entitled “THE IMAM & THE PASTOR”

Date : Tuesday 9th February 2010

Time : 8.00 – 10.00pm

Venue : Rumah Anak Bangsa Malaysia, 66 Lorong Setiabistari Satu, Bukit Damansara

Programme:

8.00pm – Opening remarks

8.15pm – Video screening

8.45pm – Discussion

10.00pm – End of programme

About the video

This video documents the story of Pastor James Movel Wuye and Imam Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa – how they journeyed from enmity to friendship. The two Nigerian clergymen had been sworn enemies for years and even attempted to have the other killed.  A chance meeting in 1995 marked the beginning of the process of reconciliation. By truthfully acknowledging their theological differences and exposing detrimental misperceptions, the pastor and the imam have set forth a model for reconciliation between Christians and Muslims across Nigeria and throughout the world. They believe peace will be achieved through education and dialogue. Wuye and Ashafa appeal to scripture as the basis for reconciliation.  Hence, peace and justice is restored through religion, even as it was first violated through religion.

Post-screening discussion

After the screening, there will be a time for participants to share their response and exchange views.  Through this, we could explore how to appropriate some of the lessons from Pastor Wuye and Imam Ashafa’s story for our context and perhaps discover a way through the confusion into clarity and conviction.

Organisers

This event is jointly organised by Sisters-in-Islam, Friends-in-Conversation, CCM Youth and Islamic Renaissance Front.

ATTENDANCE BY INVITATION ONLY, PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Please email friendsinconversation@gmail.com with your full name, organisation / affiliation, contact number and email address by Monday 8 February 2010.  We will reply to confirm your registration.

Thanks to Ben Myers from Faith and Theology for the lead to this beautiful (and at times painful) movie.

This is a really good read.  Informative video clip too! I think I will go for round two to reward myself for writing my papers ROFL.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to the Cineplex . this looks like a major draw soon! :-) But before that finish some needed work – whether it’s for my studies or for Christmas . and a whole lot in between!

So much has happened in the last one week that I haven’t even stopped sufficiently to reflect on.  I’m slowing down the speed of my life starting today.  Okay, perhaps fater lunch since we have a meeting with another guest from USA.  But for now, I’d like to just highlight a special moment between 2 friends and also 2 congregations.

Covenant for Congregational Partnership

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.” Psalm 113:3

United in the faith of the Triune God, as part of the worldwide church of Jesus Christ,

and thankful for the connection we have had since 2005,

we commit to establish a

congregation partnership

between:

Bangsar Lutheran Church

(LCMS, Malaysia)

Evangelical Lutheran Church Lauf a.d. Pegnitz

(ELCB, Germany)

We both declare …

1. We are grateful for the bond as brothers and sisters between the two congregations and consider it to be a blessing and opportunity for mutual enrichment in the body of Christ.

2. We have in common the focus

a. To lead lively congregations which are led by the Holy Spirit ,

b. To encourage believers in faithful discipleship in Jesus Christ.

c. To invite people to become followers of Jesus Christ ,

d. To become witnesses for Christ in public life and social engagement in creative and constructive ways.

3. We can share with and learn from each other ideas and lessons on all the above. We want to let each other know about the most important news on the life and ministry of our congregations and pray for each other regularly.

4. We were blessed through the contacts and visits we have had thus far, and would be pleased and hopeful for deeper friendship and partnership.

star_trek_2009

I really liked the “Rebooted” Star Trek Movie. No complaints.

Made me wonder how would the Church in Malaysia look like if we “rebooted” ourselves with the same energy and focus that went into this movie.

Of course, made me wonder how would the government, various institutions and society in Malaysia would look like if the whole system went for a much needed “reboot”. Literally, we need more than a kick?

One meeting was rescheduled this morning.  That felt good. Another meeting opened up this afternoon before another appointment which both are cool. One is basic, another is beyond.

I noticed after watching Fringe that J.J Abrams seems to like certain fonts. I blame this sensitivity and all things in the media to my father. When I was young, he was always talking about them in the car when we pass a billboard.  Strange how our origin stories affect us so much :-)

I giggled when a church member warned me from using Star Trek in my upcoming sermons :-P Well, after the “rebooted” Battlestar Galactica series. Where else will I get my entertainment inspirations? Caprica?

I noticed prequels are the trend the past few years.  Interesting.  Seems like we have also grown the hunger to know how one get’s to where they are today as well as where one is heading to. Fascinating.

So, it’s not just who have we become but what led us to become who we are as well as the people who influenced us along the way.

Whoosh!!! Bam! I loved the new way they get into warp speed. :-)

I loved the new way they show how people are “transported” too . ah the little details which make a lot of difference.

This post was meant for yesterday. Thursday is for Random thoughts. Friday is for family and friends.  More later.
