The past 7 years have taken me into a journey of appreciating ancient songs as well as more Asian/African/Latin American Global songs. There was a season when I could hardly swallow contemporary stuff … especially the “Top of the Pops” kind of tsunami of songs which seems to me unable to connect to the deepest yearning inside me.
There were exceptions … especially some from Vineyard Music, Soul survivor and Passion.
This particular song is still one of my favorites – it does something to me – or more precisely, I find myself brought to a place where God the Father is working in me. 🙂
Brother, Thank you for the post. I’ve checked in with your blog off and on for quite awhile. (Paths first crossed as part of a book study with Messy Christian and others.) Recently, I see we might have a common friend in a brother here in my local village. (David P. in St. Mountain. In fact, I hope to see him this evening- what a small world we’re set apart to serve.)
Your music and worship wrestling resonates with me. I, too, have personally journeyed, as well as led our folks, more down the path of lyrics and song that weave us into the tapestry of the ancient/future church and away from a “Me centered” bias of much more contemporary music in worship fare. Presently, my heart is firmly pressed by God to know much more of the Asian/African/Latin heritage and “way as a worshiping church” and weave it into a local understanding of this “every tribe, tongue and nation” body into which we are birthed by Christ. It seems you are further along this path than I. Keep it up. Your trekking counts- even here in Stone Mountain. – Peace
Thanks TMuse for your comments. During this late night I’m glad to get an encouraging post. It’s always a blessing especially after a tired day (like today after spending a whole day hanging out at the local seminary and after a council meeting) 🙂
