Ewan’s Baptism

Posted on 6 July, 20088 July, 2008 by Sivin Kit

It’s done.  Or more of begun …. 🙂 Today, Ewan got baptized, and initiated before the church family, our families and relatives into  a life of faith. Rev. Thomas Low (who came with full robe!) from Luther House, PJ conducted the baptism with Pastor Naomi Tan from BLC assisting.

Ewan dressed in his sailor outfit  was pretty cool about the whole event as you can see.  And a special was to have his two grandfathers present as witnesses in front.  A cute part of the service when we the parents were asked questions on our faith commitment, Ewan responded by lifting his right leg as if affirming our "I do’s" 🙂

As you can see from the camera movements, as the water was poured on his head, Ewan got more excited and "moved" by the cool water.

After the more intense segment, during the closing prayer he was more settled.  And as he was welcomed by the church, it’s interesting to see his open arms too!

A added bonus was to have so many aunties and uncles come this round, especially Aunty Grace Khoo, my cousin Lorsen, his wife Jamie, and Jubille (who adores Ewan) all the way from USA.

Let’s not forget, a quick family photo with May Chin’s parents who have been a great help and blessing to us for all three of our kids, especially for taking of Ewan half of the day.

In the midst of the clumsiness of our lives, somehow we can trust God who is love can do wonders with our lives starting now until forever more. Even without all the answers of life sorted out, we approach Him with child-like faith, knowing that as time passes along our faith journey, with multiple times of revising our questions (and adding new ones), we will see things clearer and respond even more faithfully to the one who called us even before we were formed in our mother’s womb.  And in Ewan’s case, especially today,  we see God’s calling upon him before the community now.

Holy God, mighty Lord, gracious Father:

We give you thanks, for in the beginning

your Spirit moved over the waters

and you created heaven and earth.

By the gift of water you nourish

and sustain us and all living things.

Blessed be God now and forever.

By the waters of the flood

you condemned the wicked

and saved those whom you had chosen,

Noah and his family.

You led Israel by the pillar of cloud and fire through the sea,

out of slavery into the freedom of the promised land.

Blessed be God now and forever.

In the waters of the Jordan

your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Spirit.

By the baptism of his own death and resurrection

your beloved Son has set us free from the bondage to sin and death,

and has opened the way to the joy and freedom of everlasting life.

He made water a sign of the kingdom and of cleansing and rebirth.

In obedience to his command, we make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit.

Blessed be God now and forever.

Pour out your Holy Spirit,

so that those who are here baptized may be given new life.

Wash away the sin of all those who are cleansed by this water

and bring them forth as inheritors of your glorious kingdom.

To you be given praise and honor and worship

through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

Amen.

I couldn’t help cracking up everytime Ewan raised his right foot. He’s very cute the way he likes looking up at the people who are carrying him. 😉

This is my favourite baptismal hymn for Ewan

REFRAIN: Father welcomes all His Children
To His Family through His son.
    Father giving His salvation,
    Life Forever has been won.

    1. Little Children come to me,
for My kingdom is of these.
Life and love I have to give,
    Mercy for your sin.

REFRAIN: Father welcomes all His Children
To His Family through His son.
    Father giving His salvation,
    Life Forever has been won.

    2. In the water, in the Word,
    in His promise, be assured:
Those who are baptized and believe,
    Shall be born again. REFRAIN

    3. Let us daily die to sin;
let us daily rise with Him
Walk in the love of Christ our Lord,
Live in the peace of God. REFRAIN
