Focus looking at the center and see what happens!
“Life is meant to be lived from a Center, a divine Center. Each one of us can live such a life of amazing power and peace and serenity, of integration and confidence and simplified multiplicity, on one condition – that is, if we really want to. There is a divine Abyss within us all, a holy Infinite Center, a Heart, a Life who speaks in us and through us to the world. We have all heard this holy whisper at times.”
– Thomas R. Kelly, A Testament of Devotion (via inward/outward)
Hmm…very interesting! I stared at the center for a minute or so and think I’m getting crossed eyed, with the purple spots turning green. Perhaps you could enlighten me about how I can use this as an aid to “centering prayer” 🙂
Seriously though, I believe we are all trying to live our lives from the Divine center. All our theological formation, our restless searching and our various spiritual practices are merely the means to that end. When we try to make them the goal, we may be tempted to prescribe to others the ‘right way’ and in our zeal begin to quench the Spirit. As I accompany others in spiritual direction, I am always amazed at the many surprising ways the Spirit beckons others to the Center.
lilian – the picture was not meant as an aid for centering… 🙂 I’d rather close my eyes. Or use an icon, maybe a candle.
It’s a good illustration though. it reminds me of the song “Turn your eyes upon Jesus” especially the part that goes “and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace…”
This is cool!
The point of the illusion is well taken. Also noticed how easily it is for me to get distracted…
