I’m sure I’m not the only one observing this, but the build up towards Merdeka Day August 31 and Malaysia Day on September 16 seems rather subdued. Looks like the whole nation is focused on a by-election right now. :-)
I believe for many concerned citizens of Malaysia of all race and religions (or non-religion), as well as a variety of political persuasions and leanings, what is critical for us is what are the steps we need to take to move towards the future, rather than rehashing the past.
So, this "low-key-ness" perhaps is a sobering pause we need and re-envision the future together. We at the Micah Mandate hope to get more people moving in that direction, especially Christians. So using Citizenship as a unifying theme .. but hopefully we can approach is from a variety of of angles.
The Micah Mandate will be running a series of articles on “Citizenship” in August and September and we wish to invite our readers to submit their thoughts, comments, experiences and exhortations with respect to this topic.

So that people may know and understand. The more you hide behind close doors, the more misunderstandings will arise.”

Many have shared that they enjoyed reading, thinking and discussing Ohtawa’s quiet reflections that reveal deep insights into our life and walk as Christians. In this 10th installment, he shares, “One day, on my way home while I was standing and waiting for a traffic signal, I had an insight. I was walking every day only because I had to in order to arrive at my goal. I wondered if perhaps this was not a metaphor for the way I was living my life. I was always thinking about how to finish the task at hand. It had become a way of life to jump from one thing to the next as soon as a task was completed. I recognized meaning in and attributed value to the speed and efficiency with which I could accomplish something.”
